Out of business management, marketing, and professional sales, which do you think would be most beneficial to live touring and which would be more geared towards working at say labels. Basically which majors are geared more towards which type of professions in the music industry?

Probably business management and/or marketing, although I’m not really sure what the professional sales degree entails. Touring is more of a skill business when it comes to teching, or management and organization skills when it comes to tour managing / production / merchandising. The more experience you get in touring, the more valuable you become. Experience is also vital in working at a label, but a degree in marketing or management would probably help a lot in that atmosphere.

WOW! That got there fast! I just put this in the mail on Monday.

But, speaking of being awesome… I got your card AND package today at work. Perry and I love the Starbucks cups (or, uhhh, should I call them tumblers since this is tumblr?) since we love drinking coffee and hate having to do the dishes to clean the Tim Horton’s mugs that we have. We can now each go one day longer, hahaha.

I have one of the older tumblers (heh) and you can use them for both cold or hot bevies. Also, Starbucks is supposed to give you like 10c off your drink for using an enviro-friendly cup! And I think re-fills are exponentially cheaper… Once a nice guy charged me 40c for an ice coffee re-fill. Or maybe he was hitting on me, I’m not sure. I’m terrible at spotting those signs haha.

I don’t know what to tell you. I really don’t.

I understand this, it’s called island fever. I had it growing up on O’ahu, all I wanted was something bigger. When I was 18, I graduated from high school and moved to New York City to attend college. I was incredibly homesick my first semester at NYU but I quickly fell in love with the city, it’s what I had always dreamed about. It’s been 3 years since I graduated and now I live in California, but the time away from Hawaii has taught me to appreciate what I always took for granted as a youth. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without the 18 years I spent growing up in Hawaii. I probably won’t ever move back, but there will always be a tie between my heart and those islands.

do you ever wish you have a sibling? almost all my friends have siblings!

I’m an only child and have ALWAYS wanted a sibling, specifically an older brother. That’s probably why I’ve always hung out with older dudes. But strangely enough come to think of it, I hardly ever date older dudes, mostly guys younger than me by a year or two. Weird.

What does your workout plan consist of?

I’ve been doing the P90X Lean work out program after I saw incredible results with my friends Sean, Beth, and Jake. It’s a daily workout lasting an hour to hour-half, with Sunday’s off to rest or stretch. It’s a lot of dedication but I think it’s worth it, plus it’s kind of fun. You can check it out on beachbody.com, the DVD set is pretty expensive so check ebay and amazon for used copies selling for less money.

A bit random, but I always smile when I see you mention Snow Patrol because a few of the members are from my town and it’s crazy to see how far they’ve come. I also wanted to say how great I think you are for answering questions people have about the industry because it’s far better to hear it firsthand and it’s very nice of you to do :) I’m sure you’ve been asked this before, but if you could work for any band, or just tour with them, who would you pick?

I love Ireland and Scotland! My parents took me to Ireland for a 10 day trip as my college graduation gift, my dad and I had always wanted to go because his dad’s side of the family is Irish. Everyone there is so warm and the country is beautiful.

I think I was asked this question once before and my answer was Kings Of Leon, because they’re an amazing live band and I would be very content hearing them play every single night with or without any personal relationship with the band. And if I could answer this purely out of sheer selfishness, I would say Hanson because they’ve been my favorite band since age 13 ha!

Does hearing stories such as Miley Cyrus and Weezers bus crashing ever make you nervous about touring in a bus over a van?

YES. It makes me nervous about touring in general and I hope my parents never see the news about those bus crashes because I don’t want them to worry. Not only did it happen to Weezer and Miley’s crew bus, but I just heard that Every Time I Die were also recently in a bus accident overseas, luckily they’re all fine. Traveling in a bus gives you a sense of security that you don’t have when you’re in a 16 passenger van, you’re a lot more vulnerable being in the van than a vehicle as large as a bus. I’ve been so lucky with Plain White T’s to have never been through an accident involving the old van or any of the buses. Our drivers have always been great, but you just never know. Plain White T’s regularly use the same bus company that Weezer was using, and the driver of that bus probably saved everyone from worse injury or fatality by being a skilled driver able to think fast after hitting black ice. You just never know, and that’s scary.
